Bronze Star Citation

HEADQUARTERS X CORPS
Office of the Commanding General
United States Army

BRONZE STAR MEDAL. By direction of the President, under the provisions of Executive Order Number 9419, 4 February 1944, (Section II, Bulletin 3, WD, 1944), a Bronze Star Medal is awarded by the Commanding General, X Corps, to the following named officer:

CAPTAIN JAMES F. LARRABEE, 0368258, Medical Corps, United States Army.

For meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy in MINDANAO, PHILLIPINE ISLANDS, during the period 27 April to 30 June 1945. Captain Larrabee, by his exceptional skill and administrative ability, established and operated an outstanding X-ray Department in a Field Hospital. Due to his perseverance and devotion to duty, x-ray facilities were available on a 24-hour basis for the sick and wounded, this being the first medical unit with these facilities available to casualties in their evacuation from the front lines. Through his unusual skill and ability many patients were returned to duty who would otherwise have had to be evacuated to Station or General hospitals for further clinical investigation. When evacuations were difficult because of disrupted communications, this latitude of x-ray service made possible an early return to duty of many soldiers and prevented further hardships and suffering to many who would otherwise have been subjected to further evacuation. Captain Larrabee's initiative, loyalty and devotion to duty reflect great credit on himself and the military service.
